Paris Hilton Damage Limitation

April 3, 2009 No comments yet

The story broke on Friday that Paris Hilton had been involved in a bit of a DJ booth bust-up at Miami’s Winter Music Conference. The first major account of the incident came from Paris herself in her MySpace blog, and her tale of the brawl involving her boyfriend Doug Reinhart was rapidly picked up by the celebrity media machine.

However DJ Steve Angello, an Alchemy client, had quite a different take on the events. So we swung into action with a rapid damage limitation campaign, with Matt putting out a statement to all key media.

By constantly monitoring all the online activity, we were able to not only respond effectively and fast to the negative news reports, but to turn the issue to our advantage, securing worldwide coverage with 150+ online stories in the process.

An interesting week for sure. And a totally genuine reason to use ‘Paris Hilton’ in the title of a blog post rather than being one of those poor, desperately misguided SEO scams. Result!

Slideshare Success

A big thanks to the wise editorial team at Slideshare for featuring our presentation Why Content Strategy Matters on both their Business and Management homepage and the main site homepage. We’ve picked up over 2500 views since it was posted a week ago and the feedback has been hugely positive.

As a means for us to demonstrate digital content in action it couldn’t be better. The file has been downloaded and embedded by all sorts of people and we’ve already made some great contacts.

Yes, we know we’re somewhat preaching to the converted on Slideshare, (‘social media’ is their top search term), but that makes the peer feedback all the more important. And having the embed on our site really makes it come alive, which is great for getting our message across, especially to those who don’t understand the whole digital content concept yet.

We feel that slideshows make a great alternative to video, static photos, banners or lengthy reams of text online. Flicking through bright, clear pages featuring short, to-the-point text and great images is exactly what works on screens, when it’s done well.

We’ll pull out great examples of Slideshare presentations to share occasionally on the blog…

Content Slideshow Goes Live

So the final element of our website is now in place. The ‘Why Content Strategy Matters’ presentation answers some of the big questions that crop up when getting to grips with digital content.

The slideshow’s home on the site is our page entitled ‘Why?’, but in the spirit of the medium it is of course also fully embeddable. So it appears above, on my LinkedIn profile, and on the excellent Slideshare social network for starters. Please feel free to use it wherever you like too. Even better, ask us to come in and give you the full personalised presentation, as there is plenty more background info.

We believe this is a great way to focus attention on the exciting potential of digital, rather than simply bemoaning its negative disruptive effects. Let us know what you think.

The Difficult First Post

December 29, 2008 1 comment

Hey, things really must be happening around here – witness the arrival of our first blog post.

Starting off a blog is always tough. The first entry unavoidably ends up being a bit stiff. It’s difficult to announce your arrival as the latest global publisher when you haven’t actually posted anything beyond this initial unverified promise of all the great stuff to come.

Still, it’s got to be done. If only to get the necessary statement of intent out of the way and allow the following posts to actually deal with the topics you want to talk about. In our case, when not busy creating top quality digital content for other people, we’ll be blogging our perspective on the changing face of media, linking to interesting content we’ve unearthed elsewhere and updating on all that’s happening here at Alchemy Content towers.

Please enter the conversation! Comment on our posts, make sure you follow us on Twitter and add us to your chosen RSS feeds to keep thoroughly well fed with our blogging goodness. You might even want to spread the word.

Now, ‘first post’ promises duly laid out, let’s get on with it…
